KEMFAST REACH UPDATE (HAAS GROUP INTERNATIONAL SCM LTD)

In July 2010 Kemfast Aerospace Ltd formerly merged into Haas Group International SCM Ltd. Haas Group International is both a supplier and an importer of products containing chemical substances, mixtures and articles as defined under the REACH Legislation.

REACH is a new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use (EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances. The new law entered into force on 1 June 2007.
The aim of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances.

Haas Group International 2010 Import Registrations

As an importer of products containing chemical substances, Haas Group International has reviewed its imports by substance and while a number of substances were pre-registered as a precaution, no substances were finally registered with ECHA for the 2010 REACH deadline. Our volumes of CMR substances were well below the 1 tonne per year import threshold and our higher tonnage general chemicals will only require registration in 2018. Our system will continue to monitor our imports by substance to enable management to monitor any changes in this situation as our business develops.

Suppliers to Haas Group International

Our key suppliers have confirmed that where applicable, substances used in the products we distribute will be registered by the relevant ECHA deadline. Some product suppliers, particularly those are not based in the EU, are less well prepared for the impact of REACH. We are working closely with them to achieve a high level of compliance and co-operation in supplying the data we provide to our customers.
We expect in a few cases there will be some products which may no longer be offered due to raw material restrictions. As soon as we have exact information about a possible phase-out of product from our suppliers we will inform customers and our sales team will work with those affected to seek alternative products for the intended application.

Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC’s)

We have received increasing numbers of enquiries about Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) and other substances and their registration status. Information in the supply chain is variable and if customers have any concerns about substances in the product we sell we recommend they contact our EHS team at the address below.

REACH does not cover all substances

There may be substances in products we supply to customers that require no registration under REACH. This is because they are exempt in some way. For example, if less than one tonne of substance is imported into or made in the EU, it could be a naturally occurring substance or it may be covered by other legislation such as the Biocide Products Directive 98/8/EC, which overrides REACH.

Future Information Developments

Haas Group International has made a significant investment in software which will enable us to analyse substance data by product and customer. We are a global operation and as our system develops we expect to introduce new chemical management services to our customers who may be interested in such data for their businesses.
